Hartford loses leading scorer Jalen Ross who poured in 17.8 points per game during conference action, but do return their next eight leading scorers and 69.1% of their offense. Second leading scorer (12.4 ppg) Jason Dunne returns after leading Hartford in 3PA (6.9), hitting 36.5% of them, with Hassan Attia (7.9 ppg) and J.R. Lynch (7.7 ppg) also back for the Hawks.
With the loss of Pancake Thomas (21.3 ppg) from the 2015-16 roster Hartford found their lead man in Jalen Ross during the 2016-17 season. Ross was able to increase his conference scoring average by 5 points after taking over the alpha role from Thomas. So who will fill the role for the 2017-18 season? Guards Jason Dunne and J.R. Lynch appear to be the leading candidates on paper, but maybe Hartford would benefit from a more balanced offensive approach after such subpar seasons in 2015-16 and 2016-17.
The good news for the Hawks is that both Dunne (36.5%, 6.9 3PA) and Lynch (37%, 3.4 3PA) were more efficient than Ross (31%, 6.5 3PA) last season. However, both will have to make adjustments to the added defensive attention that comes from the loss of Ross.
With rebounding such a major issue last season, Hartford will have to find a way to help Hassan Attia (8.0 rpg) on the boards. John Carroll (4.9 rpg) did his part last season, but the Hawks will need to see contributions increase from all spots on the floor to have any chance of moving up the America East standings.
#3 Jalen Knight (Fr) 6'0'' 175 pound guard. Averaged 21 points and 7 assists as the point guard for United Faith Christian School as a senior. Goes by the nickname "Bird" Highlight Video 1
#22 Travis Weatherington (Jr) 6'2'' 215 pound guard. Arrives at Hartford from Palm Beach Community College where he averaged 16.2 points per game last season. Highlights show a shooter with an ability to get to the rim. Highlight Video 1, Highlight Video 2
#45 Petr Stepanyants (Fr) 6'9'' 220 pound forward. Originally from Moscow, he played last season for Balboa City School in California where he averaged 12 points and 7 rebounds. Highlight Video 1 with woo's included for your viewing pleasure. Highlight Video 2 (longer, if you're going to watch one then make it this one). Fan of his game, looks to be a physical inside player with some moves.
#34 Branislav Terzic (Fr) 6'5'' 185 pound forward. Originally from Belgrade, Serbia. Played a postgrad year at Williston Northampton where he averaged 12.4 points, 6.8 rebounds and 3.7 assists. Definitely watch his highlight video, it's a fun one. Highlight Video 1 (I'd check his passport, he's either born in 1997 or this video is from 1997 and he's close to 40 years old).
