5 Shots And1 - Stony Brook (72) at Albany (65)

Lucas Woodhouse Stepped Up

Woodhouse led the way for Stony Brook offensively recording 23 points in 35 minutes of action. On the defensive end he did a nice job on his man, and at one point stayed in front of David Nichols enough to draw a charge. While he was off a bit from deep (for him), he still managed to go 3-7 in the Stony Brook win. Woodhouse played like the POY candidate he is against a tough rival on the road.

With A Little Help From His Friends

Stony Brook got contributions throughout its roster on both sides of the ball. On the defensive end they were able to hold Albany's dynamic duo of Joe Cremo and David Nichols to a combined 24 points on 8-28 shooting. Roland Nyama joined Lucas Woodhouse in double figures with 14 points, while six Seawolves recorded at least six points, and nine recorded at least two. During the Stony Brook run that put them ahead for good they got two big threes from UC Iroegbu who came into the contest shooting 26% from deep in conference play.

Albany Needs David To Be Goliath

It's a lot to put on a sophomore point guard in his first season of real action, but Albany goes as David Nichols goes. I've said it before and I'll say it again, when he's on offensively Albany is as tough to beat as anyone in the conference, when he's off and forcing shots their offense can look lost. Nichols is as dynamic of a player as you'll find in the America East, and in my opinion the player currently with the highest upside. The quick fix is eliminating the deep transition two, that either has to be a three or taken to the rim...he can get that deep two at any point in the shot clock. With experience will come consistency, leading to a better understanding of pace of play and shot selection.

Stire Stars, Campbell Stirs

Greig Stire stepped up on a night where Albany didn't get much from Cremo, Nichols and Charles. Before fouling out the junior recorded 15 points and 6 rebounds to lead Albany, while his 3 assists were second most for the Great Danes on the night. It was a nice night for the young man who continues to throw his body around in the paint night in and night out for Albany. Devonte Campbell continues to look more and more comfortable on offense and he now provides solid contributions on both sides of the ball for the Great Danes. Campbell finished the night with 12 points and 6 rebounds despite some foul trouble.

Stat Pop

Albany reached their magic number of 20 free throw attempts, and even made one more than Stony Brook, yet still fell to the Seawolves by 7. Stony Brook was +8 on the boards over the final 20 minutes after Albany headed into the break +6 on the glass. In the end Albany was once again outdone behind the arc as Stony Brook finished 7-18 from deep, while the Great Danes only attempted 10, making three. Stony Brook had its largest lead of 13 with 7:21 remaining in the contest before Albany was able to cut the deficit in half. Stony Brook bench players outscored Albany bench players 20-12, as the Seawolves got contributions from up and down their roster.

And1 (The Bet)

As much as I would have enjoyed Stony Brook fans having to deal with a Jameel Warney Twitter account featuring Peter Hooley and his trophies, instead we will get a Peter Hooley account featuring Jameel Warney with his. To the victors, go the spoils.
