America East OOC Individual Leaders

America East OOC Team Leaders

Team Breakdowns

Albany

Team did their work inside, and from the free throw line in OOC play. Finished 10th in the nation scoring 25.7% of their points from the charity stripe. The Great Danes scored 51.6% of their points from 2, compared to just 22.6% of their points from 3.

Finished OOC with a record of 11-4, a top 100 RPI (88th) and a strength of schedule ranking 259th.  They led all America East teams in points scored per possession, and points given up per possession.

Great Danes are led in scoring by Evan Singletary (12.3 ppg), Peter Hooley (11.9 ppg), Ray Sanders (10.7 ppg) and Joe Cremo (10.7 ppg); giving them 4 scorers in double figures. Albany is led in three pointers made by Evan Singletary with 22 and free throw's made by Peter Hooley with 64.

Mike Rowley leads the Danes with 7.1 rebounds per game including 3.1 offensive rebounds per game.

Don't be deceived by Albany's three point percentage. While Peter Hooley has attempted 67 threes, he's only made 11 (16.4%). Albany with Hooley's stats removed is shooting 68-174 (39.1%) from deep.  Expect a 15-20 point percentage jump from Hooley, as conference play gets going. Amazingly Freshman Joe Cremo has shot 14-26 (53.8%) from deep, expect that to dip 10-15 (possibly 20) percentage points. One could also reasonably expect Jamir Andrews (20.8%) to jump roughly 10 percentage points as he has a very sweet stroke.

Binghamton

Binghamton had a fairly efficient defense during OOC play; however, it was their offense that let them down. While they averaged 0.836 points per possession (last in conference) they gave up 0.996 points per possession (3rd in conference).

The Bearcats finished OOC play with a record of 3-10 and a RPI of 309. Binghamton shot poorly from the field finishing 9th amongst America East teams in both two point field goal percentage and three point field goal percentage.

The Bearcats are led in scoring by Willie Rodriguez (14.1 ppg), Everson Davis (11.1 ppg) and Marlon Beck (9.5 ppg). Binghamton is led in three pointers made by Marlon Beck with 32 and free throws made by Willie Rodriguez and Everson Davis (both with 52).

Willie Rodriguez leads them with 6.2 rebounds per game including 1.6 offensive rebounds per game.

Binghamton will need to improve their shooting percentages from both inside in deep to make some noise in the America East. Ball security has also been an issue as they're averaging a turnover on 19.2% of their trips down the floor. One thing the Bearcats do exceptionally well is defend the three ball as they've given up a conference best 19.8 ppg from deep in OOC play.

Hartford

Hartford lived and died with three ball in OOC play while struggling to shoot from inside the arc. Their defense mirrored their offense as the Hawks gave up 42.9 ppg (8th) from 2 while giving up 20.6 ppg (tied for 3rd) from deep.

The Hawks finished OOC with a record of 4-9 and a RPI of 326. Their ability to limit turnovers should help in conference play as they finished OOC with a league best turnover per possession percentage.

Hartford thrived at the free throw line hitting an America East best 73.1% during OOC play. Their scoring comes from deep (39%) and the free throw line (22.1%) as only 38.9% of their offense comes from two point field goals.

The Hawks are led in scoring by Pancake Thomas (15.9 ppg), John Carroll (11.2 ppg), George Blagojevic (10.8 ppg) and Justin Graham (9.9 ppg). Pancake Thomas also leads the Hawks with 6.3 rebounds per game and 51 free throws made.

Hartford will need to improve their rebounding as they finished OOC play with a conference low rebounding rate. Offensive rebounds are an issue as they only have one player averaging more than one per game (Carroll with 9 in 5 games).

Maine

Maine started games slowly in OOC play as they finished with a league worst -6.5 point margin in the first half. The Black Bears led the league in OOC play, forcing their opponents to turn the ball over 19.3% of their possessions. The issue for them however, is that they turned the ball over 21.5% of their offensive possessions.

The Black Bears finished OOC play with a record of 4-9 and a RPI of 292.

Maine shot adequately on both two point field goals and three point field goals during OOC play. Their offense however, finished 8th amongst America East teams in points per possession during OOC play.

The Black Bears are led in scoring by Issac Vann (15.8 ppg), Kevin Little (14.5 ppg), and Devin Eke (10.4 ppg). Lavar Harewood (25) leads them in free throws made, while Kevin Little (32) leads them in three pointers made.

Maine is led in rebounding by Devin Eke with 7.5 rebounds per game. Kevin Little leads them with 17 steals during OOC play.

The Black Bears will need to work on ball security to make some noise during America East conference play. Turnovers and poor shooting on two point field goals have affected their offensive points per possession. Maine defended the perimeter well as they only gave up 20.5 points from deep during OOC play. The issue on defense has been the interior as they gave up a league worst 48.3 points from two during OOC action.

Stony Brook

Stony Brook finished OOC tops amongst America East schools in two point field goal percentage, rebounding rate, percentage of points from two and second half point margin.

The Seawolves completed OOC play with a record of 9-4, a RPI of 60 and a KenPom ranking of 64. Their RPI and KenPom ranking led America East schools coming out of OOC action.

Stony Brook's offense thrives inside thanks to their big men as they got 60.1% (1st) of their offense from two point field goals. Their rebounding rate of 54.3% led America East schools during OOC play.

The Seawolves are led in scoring by Jameel Warney (20 ppg), Carson Puriefoy (14.2 ppg) and Ahmad Walker (10.9 ppg). Warney leads not only Stony Brook, but all of America East in points per game, rebounds per game and blocks per game during OOC action.

Ahmad Walker leads both Stony Brook and the America East averaging 5.2 assists per game during OOC play. They were led in free throws made by Ahmad Walker (39), and by Carson Puriefoy (31) in three pointers made.

The Seawolves need to improve their free throw shooting; however, that may be their only issue to this point. The interior is dominated by the Stony Brook big men, while they also shot a very respectable 35.8% from deep. The only other (possible) mark against Stony Brook in OOC play was their inability to force opponent turnovers.

UMBC

UMBC is a tough team to judge as they've been much better offensively since Jairus Lyles has entered the equation (last 4 games). The Retrievers complete OOC play with a record of 4-10 and a RPI of 310.

The Retrievers leave OOC play with a middle of the pack (5th) offense and a 7th ranked defense. As previously mentioned, the offense has looked a whole lot different in their final four OOC contests.

UMBC is led in scoring by Jairus Lyles (26.8 ppg, in 4 games), Rodney Elliott (13.8 ppg), Joe Sherburne (13.3 ppg) and Will Darley (12.3 ppg). Lyles also leads UMBC in rebounding at 6.5 per game, and steals at 2.5 per game.

The Retrievers are led in free throws made by Rodney Elliott (65) and three pointers made by Joe Sherburne (38).

Time will tell if the Retrievers offense can thrive in America East play with the insertion of Lyles. For now they have to improve on their three point shooting, three point defense and two point production to have any shot to finish in the top half of the America East standings.

UML

UML shot the three ball well in OOC play, but other than that it's been a somewhat rough start for the River Hawks. They can at least come into conference play knowing they played the 3rd toughest OOC schedule. The question remains to be answered if early season tests will lead to conference victories.

UML finished OOC action with a 4-9 record and a RPI of 263.

The River Hawks are led in scoring by Jahad Thomas (12.1 ppg, Isaac White 11.1 ppg and Tyler Livingston (8.8 ppg). Jahad Thomas leads UML at 7.3 rebounds per game, while Mark Cornelius leads them with 1.2 steals per game.

Keith Hayes II leads UML with 29 made free throws during OOC play, while Isaac White leads them with 30 made three point field goals.

UML has succeeded in the past with creating turnovers, something they will need to increase in conference play. Ball security has been a bit of an issue as they've turned it over 20.3% of their possessions (8th) during OOC.

New Hampshire

UNH finishes their OOC slate at 7-6 with a RPI of 201. The Wildcats finish OOC play with a 51.5% (3rd) rebound rate and holding opponents to 33.8 (1st) points from inside the arc.

The Wildcats had a rather efficient offense, averaging 1.002 points per possession so far this season. UNH also did a nice job with ball security, turning it over on 17.6% (3rd) of their possessions.

They were led in scoring in OOC action by Tanner Leissner (14 ppg), Jaleen Smith (13.1 ppg), Jacoby Armstrong (12.2 ppg) and Daniel Dion (10.7 ppg). Iba Camara led UNH averaging 10.1 rebounds per game during OOC, while Jaleen Smith led them with 1.3 steals per game.

Jaleen Smith also led the Wildcats in free throws made, while Pat McNamara led them with 19 three point field goals.

UNH will need to increase their shooting percentages as well as defensive ball pressure to thrive during conference play. Opponents also scored a league worst 27.8 points from three against UNH during OOC play.

Vermont

Vermont will enter conference play shooting 37.9% from deep, best amongst all America East teams during OOC play. The Catamounts finished OOC with a record of 8-7 and a RPI of 115.

Vermont had a solid offense pre-conference averaging 1.002 points per possession, while giving up 1.042 points per possession to their opponents.

The Catamounts are led in scoring by Trae Bell-Haynes (12.4 ppg), Ernie Duncan (12.2 ppg), Kurt Steidl (10.6 ppg) and Ehtan O'Day (10.2 ppg). Ethan O'Day led Vermont in rebounding at 5.7 per game, while Trae Bell-Haynes led them in steals with 24.

Trae Bell-Haynes also led UVM with 69 free throws during OOC, as Ernie Duncan led them with 35 made three pointers.

Vermont is right on track entering conference play as they've hit their free throws, and their three point attempts. They will look to take better care of the ball, and increase their 2 point field goal percentage in conference play. Dre Wills is suspended until the January 18th matchup with Umass-Lowell.
