-- Burlington, VT

5 shots (and1)

(1) You've been Warney'd

Stony Brook wouldn't give their America East player of the year an offensive touch on their first 5 possessions keeping them scoreless early on. Once the Seawolves settled in Warney would influence the game as he has throughout their season. Jameel would finish with a game high 24 points on 11-17 shooting, while leading Stony Brook with 14 rebounds and 3 assists. Most Warney touches and baskets on offense seem to come from broken plays, rather than sets ran for the Seawolves big man. His ability to dominate the interior opens up the perimeter for Stony Brook.

(2) American Snipers

Both Vermont (44%) and Stony Brook (45%) would shoot a higher percentage from 3 than their overall FG%. Vermont would finish the day 10-20 (50%) while Stony Brook would shoot 6-13 (46%) from beyond the arc. Vermont's perimeter attack would be led by Hector Harold (3-7 3FG) and Cam Ward (3-6 3FG). Deshaun Thrower would pace Stony Brook from deep shooting 3-4 from long range. Caron Puriefoy would go 2-5 from deep, with both of his 3's coming in the second half, helping to spread the floor for the Stony Brook attack.

(3) Your First is Never Quite Like Your Second

Vermont would hold Stony Brook to 33% shooting, including 17% from 3 in the first half. Their largest lead would come with 2:38 remaining in the first, holding a 16 point advantage over the Seawolves. In the second half Stony Brook would shoot 55% from the field, including 71% from 3. While SB would only manage 29 first half points, they would go for 50 in the second, with Thrower (16), Puriefoy (15) and Warney (13) all reaching double figures in the final 20 minutes.

(4) Your Second is Never Quite Like Your First

Stony Brook would allow Vermont to score 41 points in the first half, shooting 52% from the field and 67% from 3. The Catamounts 8 made three pointers in the first 20 would allow them to open up the aforementioned 16 point lead. Vermont would be held to 39% shooting in the 2nd half, going only 2-8 (25%) from three. With 9:09 remaining in the second half, Stony Brook would hold an 11 point advantage over Vermont.

(5) Run Forest Run

Runs would dictate the game as Vermont opened up their double digit first half lead, followed by a second half double digit lead for Stony Brook. Neither would hold as the game would be decided in the final 5 seconds. After a tie up near the Stony Brook basket Vermont would take over possession, down 2 with two seconds on the clock. In the end, a failed Ethan O'Day jumper would give Stony Brook the victory.

  • Stony Brook would out-rebound Vermont 42-29, led by Warney, Puriefoy and Thrower
  • Both teams would shoot well from the line as SB went 19-25 and UVM went 17-21
  • SB would double up UVM in points off turnovers, 12-6
  • Vermont would assist 18 of their 25 made field goals
