-- Albany, NY #SEFCU

The only 3 pointer missed by Jaleen Smith of New Hampshire would be the one that mattered the most, as his heave at the buzzer, down two to UAlbany, would clank off the rim, giving UA a 60-58 victory. Peter Hooley led the Danes with 21 points on 8-11 shooting in 35 minutes, coming off the bench for possibly the last time this season. Hooley would come out guns blazing in this one, making it apparent he's getting close to 100%.

New Hampshire would take a 35-32 lead into the half, powered by the three ball, as they would shoot 5-7 (71.4%) from behind the arc in the first 20 minutes. The second half would be a different story, however as the Wildcat's would make the same five shots from three, but on 14 attempts leaving them at 35.7% for the half.

Jaleen Smith would power the New Hampshire offense with 16 points on 6-11 shooting, while also tallying 6 rebounds and 4 assists in 36 minutes of action. The only other UNH player to reach double figures would be Matt Miller, who had 14 points on 5-12 shooting in 33 minutes.

New Hampshire led UAlbany in several key statistical categories, allowing them to keep the game close against the America East's regular season champion. UNH would outscore UA 11-0 on second chance points, turning Albany over 11 times to their 9, as well as making 6 more three point field goals than the Danes.

Albany's ability to get to the free throw line would neutralize the New Hampshire advantage from deep. UA would go 14-16 from the charity stripe as UNH would only attempt four free throws, making two. Evan Singletary's perfect 7-7 from the line, as well as Ray Sander's 5-6 would play a major factor in the Albany win. Sanders only miss would come with 3.3 seconds remaining as he would go 1-2 from the line putting Albany up two, allowing New Hampshire to attempt the Jaleen Smith three for the win at the buzzer.

Evan Singletary continues to be UAlbany's most important player in the America East Playoff's. On a night Sam Rowley is limited to 8 points on 4-8 shooting in 38 minutes, Singletary is able to score 18 points on just 7 attempts. UAlbany is at their best when their guards, mainly Singletary, Hooley and Sanders are attacking the rim and getting to the free throw line.

Peter Hooley is back, if not evident by his game high 21 points than his 35 minutes of play should be proof enough. I'd be shocked if Hooley isn't in the starting line up for the Danes against Stony Brook in the America East finals (Will Brown says he won't be, I guess we'll have to wait and see). The absence of Hooley turned out to benefit the Danes as Ennema and Baker gained valuable experience, as they accrued more minutes during Hooley's time away from the team.

Slick Willy would keep New Hampshire on their toes, mixing in his patented man defense with half court traps and double teams off of screens. UAlbany would do a better job showing on the perimeter off screens in the second half, helping to explain the dip in New Hampshire's three point field goal percentage.

UAlbany now boasts three legit scoring options in Singletary, Sam Rowley and Hooley as well as the ultimate X-factor in Ray Sanders. Heading into the America East finals it can be argued that Albany has the best overall guard, best point guard, second best post player and top perimeter defender in the conference.
