Stony Brook vs Columbia Quickie

Early Lion Gets the Seawolf

Columbia shot 7-11 (63.6%) from deep in the first half to bring a 36-25 lead into the break. The Lions featured a balanced attack in the first 20 as 8 players scored for them, and 6 players made a three pointer in the half.

While Columbia thrived from deep, Stony Brook would go 1-8 from three as Roland Nyama was the only Seawolf to record a three point basket in the half. Both Carson Puriefoy and Bryan Sekunda went 0-2 from beyond the arc prior to halftime.

Due to foul trouble Stony Brook star player Jameel Warney would only play 10 of a possible 20 minutes in the first half. Warney was held to 5 points and 4 rebounds, while only attempting 4 shots from the floor. Tyrell Sturdivant would struggle from the floor in the half; however he would give Stony Brook rebounding help (4, including 2 offensive) during Warney's absence.

Jersey Takeover

Stony Brook would trail Columbia by 17 early in the second half. It takes a team effort to overcome such a deficit... also doesn't hurt when your stars take over. Ahmad Walker would record 6 points and 4 rebounds in the final 20, while Bryan Sekunda would record 7 points.

The real story of the final 20 minutes would be the lack of Columbia offense as both Jameel Warney and Carson Puriefoy took over. In 18 minutes Warney would score 15 points, shooting 5-7 from both the field and the free throw line...all while recording 4 blocks on the defensive end.

Puriefoy finished the second half with 14 points; shooting 5-9 from the field, including 2-3 from deep, and 2-2 from the free throw line. On the defensive end Puriefoy would record 4 steals, while leading the Seawolves with 3 assists on offense.

Warney and Puriefoy would combine for 10 field goals and 29 points, while Columbia tallied 8 field goals and 24 points as a team in the final 20.

Columbia went cold from deep in the second half as they finished 3-14, and 8-28 overall in the half. Maodo Lo would finish the half 3-11 from the field and 1-7 from three. Luke Petrasek went 1-7 from the field, while Lukas Meisner finished the half 0-4.

Stony Brook would outscore Columbia 22-10 in the paint after the break, and 21-4 in points off turnovers. The Stony Brook stars were so impressive that the Seawolves outscored the Lions 44-24 in the half, while getting 0 points from their bench.
