Beauty Is In The Eye Of The Beholder
Albany won, so there's that. Never easy to win a grind it out game on the road against an opponent known for dominating their opposition on the boards. That being said, here are your shooting numbers from the game last night:
FG%
- UA- 33.3%, 23.1% in the first half
- Quinn- 32.9%, 30.8% in the first half
3PFG%
- UA- 27.3% (3-11), 1-6 in the first half
- Quinn- 14.3% (3-21), 1-13 in the first half
Pretty much if you didn't turn this game off by halftime you either really loved one of the teams involved, or you were waiting to see if Quinnipiac would swing Coach Brown the ball for the open 3. Gotta admit, he's squared up pretty well, but his hands weren't ready for the catch and shoot and he needs to work on his spacing. (Shoutout to @JonCampbellGAN for tweeting this photo to WB)
Gimme Da Creeeemuhhh
Joe Cremo became the star of the SNY telecast last night as the broadcast team decided he was from North Jersey/Brooklyn/Long Island. Cremo dropped 11 points on 5-11 shooting in 22 minutes for the Great Danes. Arguably Albany's best player on the evening, Cremo also added 6 rebounds and 2 steals in the win. I picture a day a year or two down the road where the student section at SEFCU yells out "Make Em Say UGHHH" after every Cremo bucket...get it done.
"I've Had This Game On For 5 Minutes...
And I've seen 4 horrible calls." That's a quote directly from my father who doesn't really care about basketball. I'm not sure what went on in the second half last night with the officials. It's as if they met at halftime and decided Albany got to the free throw line too often in the first half, and would give Quinnipiac every call in the final 20 minutes. There were ghost offensive foul calls, non-goaltending calls and a travel. Feel bad for attacking the refs, but when it's this obvious then something has to be said. (Albany still attempted 10 more FT's in the second half than Quinnipiac; albeit, some were very late in a close game as Albany led)
Boarding School
Quinnipiac led the nation with 45.4 rebounds per game last season; so far in 2015-16 they're tied for 6th with 46.0 per game and have a rebounding differential of +7.6. Vermont out-rebounded them 36-31 in their 83-70 home win over the Bobcats; however, it was a game in which both teams shot much better from the field.
Being that this game involved such poor shooting it was imperative that the Great Danes matched the Bobcats on the glass; something they accomplished, as both teams pulled down 44 boards. Albany did a much better job competing down low late in the game than they did early on.
Living Free
Albany made their living at the free throw line Tuesday night. The Great Danes finished the 19-28 (67.9%) after going 10-12 in the first half. Quinnipiac only attempted 7 free throw's, going 5-7 from the charity stripe. Evan Singletary finished his night 4-4 from the line, Mike Rowley went 6-8 and Richard Peters was a perfect 2-2. (Peters is now 10-11 (90.9%) from the line this year, pretty sexy stat for a big man)
Stats That Stood Out
- According to THIS neither team had a single point in the paint, not sure how that's possible.
- Albany led for 58.3% of the game while Quinn led for 27.9%, do the math to figure out how long it was tied for.
- Quinnipiac had 13 blocks to Albany's 5.
- Also according to the live stat site neither team had a fast break point.
- Quinnipiac committed 22 fouls to Albany's 12
- Average time it took Albany to score on a possession was 18 seconds. Let's drop that shot clock to 20!
