Final: Colgate 67 Albany 88
You Can Play
True to his word after the BU game coach Brown gave his perimeter horses a bit of a break in this one. Granted it was much easier to do since the Great Danes held a double digit lead for the majority of the contest. Evan Singletary didn't play 30 minutes for maybe the first time in his Albany career (he played 29), while Ray Sanders played 30 on the dot and Peter Hooley finished the night with 24. 10 Albany players would record double digit minutes with bench players accounting for 84 of the 200 minutes played by UAlbany.
Colonel Sanders Was Extra Crispy
Ray Sanders bothered by injury had a bit of a slow start to the 2015-16 season; that came to an end Thursday night. Sanders finished the night 8-10 from the field and 6-6 from deep on his way to a career high 24 points. Sanders also hauled in 6 rebounds, while recording 5 steals on the evening. His activity on the defensive end impressed me more than his shooting; as his ability to disrupt the Colgate offense enabled Albany to record some easy buckets, including his own breakaway dunk.
Welcome Home, Lights Out
Slightly upset I didn't make the trip up for the home opener. SEFCU was rocking last night starting with player intros (lights out for them every game from here on out please). While the announced attendance of 3,711 is impressive the student turnout is what made the home opener so special. Kids love winners, but more importantly, they want "an experience". Now that the student body has realized they have a winning basketball team to back, the university must do everything it can to keep improving the game day experience.
3 More Please
You can all stop panicking about the perimeter shooting. As coach Brown said the team won't shoot this well from here on out, but they're certainly not as bad as they've been in the first two games. After making just 2 total shots from deep against Kentucky and BU, the Great Danes finished Thursday night 12-19 from deep.
Peter Gunz
Slumps happen, sometimes we can't explain why we get in them or what causes us to get out of them. Peter Hooley knows what kind of player he is, I know what kind of player he is...we all know what kind of player he is. Only advice is to relax and stop thinking, the shots will drop...no reason to force any action.
There's Never Enough Time In The Day
There aren't enough minutes to go around, it happens when you can only have 5 players on the floor at any given time. This Albany team is the deepest I've seen and players will have to learn to take full advantage of their limited opportunities. It's tough to convince college kids to sacrifice their personal goals for the good of the team. In the end there's nothing better than winning, do your job when you get the opportunity and support your team in any way possible when you're not on the floor. Feeling like you're under-appreciated sucks, but not as much as losing.
