5 Shots (and1)
(1) Paige'ing Marcus
Paige hasn't gone off in the ACC tourney yet, but he'd start UNC off nicely against Louisville with a three ball. Finishing with 13 on 4-9 shooting in 36 minutes, you get the feeling MP will have to pick up his point totals a bit for UNC to win the ACC tournament. With an elite defensive opponent such as Virginia in the next round this certainly isn't an easy request.
(2) Heels Hot From Line
For the second straight game Carolina shot the ball extremely well from the free throw line. UNC would shoot 15-17 from the charity stripe, making an almost unfathomable 88% of their free throws. Paige, Jackson and Britt would all go a perfect 2-2, while Brice Johnson would go 8-9, well above his season average of 67%.
(3) The Lights Are Off In Down Town Louisville
Not a team that normally lights it up from three, Louisville would struggle mightily from deep against UNC. The Cardinals, who average 30% from deep on the season with 5.7 made threes per game, shot 18% on 4-22 against the Tar Heels. Terry Rozier would only hit 1 3FG on 8 attempts, Blackshear would shoot 3-8 from deep and Snider would go 0-5. The Carolina defense deserves some credit for L'Ville shooting so poorly from deep, however the Cardinals missed a ton of open opportunities from behind the arc.
(4) Paint Points
UNC outscored Louisville 34-28 in the paint, led by 22 on 7-15 from Brice Johnson in 28 minutes of play. Harrell did an excellent job staying active and taking on the various UNC bigs, finishing with 14 points and 12 rebounds in 36 minutes. The Cardinals would out-rebound the Tar Heels 15-10 on the offensive glass, impressive considering UNC came into the game top 10 in the country in offensive rebound %.
(5) Seats Taken
Louisville would only get 4 points from their bench while the UNC bench would contribute 23. Joel Berry would sink two 3's in the game, a major contribution to his 8 point total in 20 minutes for the Tar Heels. Meeks, normally a starter would play 19 minutes, scoring 9 points on 4-9 shooting. Showing Carolina's dependence on interior scoring their leading shot takers would both be interior players, BJ with 15 and Meeks with 9.
- Louisville out-scored North Carolina in fast break points, 11-8
- UNC and LOU would tied with 38 total rebounds on the night
- Louisville would score 37 points in the first half but only 23 in the second
- UNC would finish the game with its largest lead...10
- Louisville's largest lead would be 10 with just over 5 minutes remaining in the 1st.
