#BAYvsTEX

Monday March 2nd--Seven ejected as Texas squeezes out an overtime win 61-59 over Baylor

5 Shots (+ 1)

(1) Holmes Don't Play That

Baylor had control of this game for much of the evening, leading Texas for all but 14 seconds of regulation. With 6:30 remaining in the game Baylor would hold a 10 point lead on the Longhorns, the gap finally closing on a Jonathan Holmes three pointer. Holmes would finish the evening 3-12, however one of those three played a large role in the Texas win.

(2) Tale of Two Halves

Baylor would dominate Texas in the paint throughout the first half, often outworking UT for rebounds on both ends of the floor. The Baylor zone also gave The Longhorns trouble early in this one, as Baylor defenders would get their hands on plenty of Texas passes during the first 20 minutes. Texas would appear to be on a mission in the final 20 as they would start pulling down some offensive rebounds of their own. Baylor's offense would become stagnant late as they appeared tired. The lack of movement would lead to poor shot selection and allow a Texas comeback.

(3) Myles Turner vs The Baylor Zone

Texas would finally get their offense going against the Baylor zone by working the ball to Myles Turner in the high post. His ability to quickly get off a shot without bringing the ball below his waste (a specialty of his) along with distributing from this position enabled the Longhorns to put some points on the board. Texas for some reason would forget about this attack plan throughout much of the second half.

(4) Rico "get off my ball" Gathers

Rico Gathers would look like a man against slightly inferior men in this one. His ability to dominate the offensive boards kept Baylor ahead for much of regulation while they kept bricking threes. Baylor would tally 21 offensive rebounds on the evening, with Rico Gathers and Royce O'Neale collecting 5 apiece. Impressive stats considering Texas would come into the game ranked 4th in the nation in total rebounding.

(5) I'll Take Anyone for 3 Please

Baylor would enter this matchup with Texas on fire behind the three point line, shooting a robust 50% from behind the arc their previous three games. While the final number isn't as ugly as it could have been (7-19, 37%), they were at one point 2-12 on the night from down town. It was really there active bodies in the paint that enabled them to control much of this game.

(6) Good Felix vs Bad Felix

3-5 from the field, 2 assists, 1 steal, 10 points in 29 minutes. The stat line doesn't jump off the page, but Javon Felix would hit clutch shots for Texas late in this one. A pleasant site for Longhorn fans considering in his last three games Felix was a combined 1-14 from the field in 33 minutes of play. Texas knows what they have on the interior, it's their guard play that remains the biggest question mark as the Big 12 tournament approaches.
